Dr. John Harper is a coastal geomorphologist and President of Coastal & Ocean Resources Inc. in Sidney, BC. He has been involved with coastal research on the British Columbia and Alaskan coasts since 1974 and is a specialist in coastal and nearshore habitat science. He is a co-developer of the ShoreZone mapping system and has directed regional mapping efforts for the entire 5,000 km of Washington shoreline, much of the 40,000 km of British Columbia coast and an estimated 40,000 km of Alaska shoreline. Dr. Harper participated extensively in the Exxon Valdez Prince William Sound oil spill monitoring efforts from 1989 through 2002 and has been involved with oil spill research since 1980.
